Australia's most enduring gold bullion coin series is the Australian Kangaroo. First introduced in 1986 as the Australian Gold Nugget, the series was renamed to the Australian Gold Kangaroo in 1990. Annually, the 1 oz gold coin and its fractional-ounce variants receive fresh designs. This version features a new kangaroo portrayal by Neil Hollis. The mint continues to issue these coins with varied mintage options. The 1 oz and 1 Kilo gold coins are produced with an unlimited mintage, allowing Perth Mint to continue striking these coins throughout the year until the next series is released in 2023. The fractional-ounce coins are issued with a set mintage cap.

The obverse of the 1 oz Australian Gold Kangaroo Coins features Queen Elizabeth II, showcasing the sixth-generation portrait designed by Jody Clark in 2015 for the Royal Mint of England. This portrayal displays the Queen in right-profile relief, adorned with the George IV State Diadem Crown.
